Polar Regions - Antarctica and The Arctic
Otherworldly, Exotic, Alluring, Ultimate Adventure! All accurate ways to describe the Polar Regions. Often a "must visit" for hearty adventurers that want to see and experience it all. It is certainly a goal to cross both the Artic Circle as well as the Antarctic Circle (little more challenging).
Cruising is the best way to visit Antarctica and the High Artic. Crossing the Drake Passage is like a rite of passage, a true explorer accomplishment. Known to be rough, it is not for those who may be seriously prone to motion sickness. In this case, you can fly to Antarctica and pick up a cruise from there and then fly back to Ushuaia.
Visiting the Canadian High Artic is possible a few months a year by ship. Other options include Svalbard, Norway, Greenland, and Iceland (the very northern part of the island has the Arctic Circle passing through).
You can visit the Arctic Circle year round by land in places like Norway, Sweden, Finland. Visit Lapland in Finland for instance to chase the northern lights, sleep in a glass igloo, and see the reindeer roaming wild.
What to see: Polar Bears, Ringed Seals, Musk Oxen, Beluga Whales, Emperor Penguins, Gentoo Penguins, Leopard Seals, Arctic Fox, Narwals, Southern Elephant Seal, Orcas, Snow Petrels, Weddell Seal, and Albatross.
