Jordan
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan declared independence from the British Protectorate in 1946 by King Abdullah I, making this a relatively young country (with deep history).
Most famous location is the 2000 year old Nabatean city of Petra which was established around 300BC.
Jordan is a small country, you can follow the Jordan Trail and walk across the entire country in 40 days! Being just a little territory tucked in on the Arabian Peninsula, they have a lot of different neighbours; Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Israel, and Egypt (Sinai).
There is every type of activity to enjoy in Jordan, with some of the friendliest people in the world, always smiling! See the photo at the top of the page, this gentleman is a perfect example of the reception you will receive in Jordan. He was a real gem, someone I met in Petra.
While many tours or cruises have Jordan as a 3 or 4 day add-on, it is a country worthy of much more of your time.
Jordan is part of the Meaningful Travel Network by Tourism Cares. You have the opportunity to visit any of the 12 Jordanian social enterprises that are part of this network.
You can (and should) spend at least two days exploring Petra and Little Petra, overnight in a Bedouin Camp if you have time, explore the Dana Biosphere Reserve, and visit the historic cities of Jerash and Madaba, and the coastal city of Aqaba.

Some photos from our last trip to Jordan. Note the one picture with the kids, they were so excited they came running up to see if I would take their picture! I have many others as well where different children ask to have their picture taken. All of my photos that include people were all taken with permission.
